Lexapro vs Zoloft

Ten’s of millions of people out there suffer from depression and anxiety and are looking for help. When they see their doctors, most will suggest that they take a medication that will help them deal with their depression and cut their anxiety by a significant amount. Two of the most popular medications that are given to those looking to get some relief are lexapro and zoloft. Because both are popular and are typically given for roughly the same types of issues, there is a lexapro vs zoloft debate that goes on amongst both the public and the medical sectors on which one is better.

Zoloft has been around since 1991 and currently holds an advantage over Lexapro, which was introduced roughly a decade later, regarding which is prescribed more to patients battling depression and anxiety. With that said, because each offers the same types of efficacy, as well as roughly the same types of side effects (sleepiness, insomnia, nausea, muscle ache and sexual dysfunction), the final decision on which one works best for a particular person may come down to a bit of trial and error. Different bodies react differently to medications, which means that while some people may react better to lexapro, other’s may find that zoloft is the better option.
